Scott + Daniel

Have you ever seen confetti at a wedding? I mean really see confetti at a wedding? I'm not talking about a sprinkle here or there, I'm talking about so much confetti that the next day you are still finding pieces in your hair, kind of confetti.  Well, Scott and Daniel's wedding was just that...filled with confetti, but even more so, filled of a group of people who wanted to celebrate the love and marriage between these two people.  Even Oregon Bride Magazine took notice and featured this fab affair in their 2016 Fall/Winter issue. When we met, Scott and Daniel knew what they wanted, not your typical wedding and definitely their own.  These two are both talented writers who currently reside in Los Angeles and decided to get married in Portland, Scott's hometown, at the newly opened Pacific Northwest College of Art. It was actually the venue's first wedding!  Scott and Daniel opted to make their own invitations, which were scripts customized to each recipient.  Each guest invited was incorporated into the script ---I was so excited when they even sent a hysterical one to us that involved Nora and myself!

Scott & Daniel had their nephews walk down the aisle throwing confetti prior to them processing in, They walked in, escorted by their darling niece, to the theme of Superman. The wedding was officiated by one of their close friends who is also a playwright. He made it personal and full of all emotions- I have never cried and laughed so much in my life.  The ceremony even included "guest appearances" from their dog (via video), Scott's childhood puppets reliving their first few emails to one another and an epic confetti explosion perfectly timed to the song "September" by Earth, Wind and Fire as they were announced husband & husband.

After the ceremony guests made their way upstairs to enjoy a family style dinner by Chef's Table Catering.  Guests found their seats with place cards made from pantone color samples.  At each setting, there was yet another script, this time with the title being the table name and the dialogue inside including everyone at each specific table talking about the food/wedding/etc. The tables had grey linens and wheatgrass centerpieces that each had alternating colors at the end of each wooden box.  After dinner guests were able to enjoy Salt and Straw Ice Cream as well as custom Chocolate Chip Cookie Cakes (1 for each table) which was Scott's gift to Daniel as he used to receive them yearly as a child.

Scott & Daniel had everyone return downstairs to the dance floor which had cafe lighting strung above, for their first dance.  Again, in typical Scott & Daniel fashion, they had carefully choreographed the dance which took up the entire dance floor as well as utilizing the second story of the venue, and did I mention confetti....more confetti cannons! Everyone had such a great time either dancing all night or playing around with the slow-motion Photo Booth with fun props and more...confetti!!

A year after the Supreme Court’s decision, the New York Times checked in on couples around the country who were married shortly after the ruling and Scott & Daniel were included.

Olivia's Bat Mitzvah

Planning a Bat Mitzvah was so much fun! Not only because it so different from planning a wedding, but it gave me the opportunity to think like a kid again!   Upon meeting sweet Olivia and her hilarious mom Alisa, and hearing that they wanted a space theme for the event, it literally left a world of possibilities.  Olivia's father, Brian Bendis, is a well known Marvel writer and the mastermind behind Jessica Jones  so creativity clearly runs in the family.  PNCA, our fab venue, gave us a blank canvas to work with.  We wanted all guests of every age to be able to have a great time and never have a dull moment, and I can assure you, we did not disappoint.  Using creative names for everything from table names, signature drinks and activities, guests had an abundance of activities for the night.

As guests walked into the event, there were two bars (one for non-alcoholic and the other for the alcoholic beverages) each had their own ice luge, which was carved to be like Saturn or a rocket ship.  For dinner, Olivia and her friends sat at long tables with silver sequin linens while the adults and family sat at round tables with black sequin linens.  The centerpieces consisted of air plants, succulents and branches with pops of purple orchids and carnations giving it an "out of this world" feel.   After dinner, a dessert buffet by Bridal Bliss, had everyone enjoying treats- everything from moon pies to thermal detonators (mini tarts).  A henna artist tattooing space themed henna art, oxygen bar with multiple oxygen flavors, flip-book station, and fortune teller were just some of the options for guests to partake in.  A DJ kept the kids dancing the night away in their space themed lounge with glowing orbs and white leather furniture surrounding the dancing area.  Each guest was given a goodie bag filled with Olivia's favorite candies and space themed trinkets.  They also were able to select pieces from Area 51, a jewelry/accessory station filled with sunglasses, necklaces, bracelets and earrings. I couldn't tell who was more sad that the event was over, myself or Olivia's friends! It was definitely an epic evening!!
