Kate + Kyle

Kate + Kyle...I adore this couple. They are two of the sweetest people and their families are the same. We worked together to plan an epic 300+ person wedding set to take place in September of 2020. Then...COVID hit and while we held out hope for a bit it was made pretty clear that plans had to change. Kate felt strongly that she wanted a large reception and to be able to be close to her guests. So, we pushed back the reception to 2021 and decided to get the two married with a small, intimate ceremony and dinner party on their original date.

We were set for the ceremony to take place at St. Mary's Cathedral, as planned, and reception with their nearest and dearest to follow at Kate's parent's home in the hills. Their backyard is picture perfect and reminiscent of a meticulously manicured country club. I was so excited, especially for our dreamy lighting plan. Everything was confirmed and ready to go when, the week of the wedding, the wildfires started. Portland was under a cloud of smoke for several days and there was no way it would be healthy to have an outdoor reception.

Kate and Debbie (her darling mom) were obviously disappointed but were the best sports. Imagine your dream wedding having to be postponed, then your Plan B canceled the week of the event! Kate kept a smile the whole time and was as flexible as can be...even when their original photographer (living in Southern Oregon) was unable to make the trek. Thankfully, after many, many calls we were able to shift almost everything inside to the Portland Racquet Club. They were so gracious even allowing Art of Catering to utilize their kitchen space.

Kate's signature chinoiserie leaf print was incorporated in invitations and a custom runner crafted by Anna's Bridal on her long family-style table. Gorgeous florals from Blum, fab lucite silverware from Great Jones NW, beautiful glass charges from BBJ, additional rentals from Party Place, and custom paper products by Crave all in hues of whites and blues perfected the room.

Kate was stunning in her Marchesa dress and Manolos and the way Kyle looked at her all day was so heartwarming. Guests, donned in masks and socially distanced, enjoyed a lovely evening complete with sweet toasts given by siblings and parents. This couple is what dreams are made of and I can't wait for their big reception to celebrate them in style (again) in 2021!

XOXO, Nora
